Every day we see a lot of people on television, many females and many males. Some of these people we immediate love and some immediate hate others we have to think about to determine whether we like them or not. One female on television that I have always loved is Ellen DeGeneres. I use to watch her on that show Cybill, where she played the star Cybill Shepard, and today I watch her television talk show Ellen. I have to say that Ellen DeGeneres is one of my favorite female media role models.
I think that Ellen DeGeneres is a good role model for many different reasons. The quotes I chose above help to show why I like Ellen so much and why I think that she is a good role model. Ellen is a comedian, talk show host, dance-aholic, pet lover, and a remarkable woman. Ellen is obviously a very determined woman. When she decided to let others know she was gay, I am sure she had received some negative because of it, but she didn’t let anyone stop her. Ellen is also a hard worker. I can remember that not too long along on her talk show she hurt her back. It was painful for her to move so she was on stage on a hospital bed and her guests also had a hospital bed to lie in. During that time Ellen had some one else doing the usual dancing that occurs at the being of the show, since she could not. Ellen is very much an individual. I don’t know many other people like her. She doesn’t care what others think of her. She dances on her show ever day because it is fun. Being kind to pets shows that Ellen is a very kind-hearted person. I think Ellen is a good role model because she does not care to stand out from the crowd. She does not try to be like anyone else. She is herself and it shows us that we all should just be ourselves too without thinking we need the approval of others.
There are some things that are similar about Ellen DeGeneres and me and there are some differences. We both love pets. Ellen loves her dogs and donates money to build pet shelters and to help animals and I love my cats and take in strays at home. I think that I like Ellen know how to be myself and am not afraid to be me. Ellen is clearly not following the crowd and is herself; you know that from just watching one episode. I do not let anyone tell me who to be. I have my own opinions on things and no one should try to get me to do something that I believe is wrong. I won’t judge you so you shouldn’t judge me. Ellen is loud and loves to dance, which is very unlike me. I am usually a quiet person unless I am with people I know very well. I don’t like to dance I would rather read or write.
I don’t know if I could do what Ellen does but that is part of what makes her a good role model. She is different from me in some aspects but like me in others. I don’t think a role model has to be some one that you want to be like in every aspect though; if it was then we would all be alike if we had the same role model. You cannot copy someone else you have to be yourself.
